Touchgraph Your Site To Improve Backlinks

Posted on by in Link Building, Search Engine Optimization

TouchGraph has a free tool called ‘TouchGraph Google Browser‘ that quickly and automatically creates a visual graph of your website’s backlink network (only including the content that Google indexes).

*Note that not all of the listed sites directly mean they have backlinks, but the majority of the sites listed will have backlinks to your site. The others are considered ‘similar pages’ which, at the least means, a competitor of yours has backlinks on that site.

Apart from being a “cool” tool to check out, it can be a valuable SEO resource to identify your weak spots and figure out where your competitors are one-upping you in regards to link building.

When your TouchGraph loads you’ll immediately be able to see a visual graph of the sites that have content that link back to your specific URL.

*Note that not all of your back links will be listed, because TouchGraph will only list the links that Google counts.

*You can also expand each node by clicking the plus sign next to it’s in name where it’s listed in the left side bar. This will offer more specific information on the source of your links.

Here’s how you can use this Free tool in your SEO work.

1- Identify what links Google isn’t indexing for you. i.e. If you find that you’re putting a lot of work into generating lots of links at a particular site, and that Google isn’t indexing them, then it’s best to give it a rest and try elsewhere.

2- If you’re looking for more sources to generate links, then enter your top keywords into TouchGraph to see a full graph of all the relevant content Google is indexing. Identify a few sites on it that you’ve been ignoring, and go after them.

3- Spy on your competitors to see where they are one-upping your by searching their URL. By viewing their network of link and contents, you can find the areas that they are beating you at and start generating similar links.

4- Combine this tool with the Google ‘Wonder Wheel.’  Enter in your main keyword into Google and click the ‘Wonder Wheel’ tool to see Google’s list of top related keywords.  Enter those keywords into TouchGraph for even more backlink sources to attack.

5- If you have a competitor that ranks better than you in Bing, look up their URL in TouchGraph to identify sites they are utilizing for backlinks that you aren’t.  These sources could be the difference they’re making in Bing.

Touchgraph is a tool you can get creative with to monitor and improve your Network of backlinks to make sure they are abundant and diverse enough to top your competitors.

Ryan, this has been a pretty stealth tool for any SEO folks for a while. I was hoping to be at your Traffic seminar in Austin because of the Amazon “River” content. My wife and I sell stationery online and Amazon is our biggest earner. I don’t know if Amazon knows but you can basically copy the templates the TOP results have and get them pointed to your Amazon Seller account. We did this only in our category and went from a pithy $2500/mo. to over $8000/mo with Amazon. And our fees went down because of the Big Box results. I guess Amazon gives credits when you sell more.

Thanks for sharing. By the looks of the comments, not many yet, people haven’t grasped the full potential of this. It’s a genius piece of software. My business partner and I use a paid version of this and tried buying the company but we found out it’s the same group that owns the pop up software Ad-Minino or something. It takes compete, Quantcast and everything in the Touchgraph concept for $79/mo. They closed their doors and since then I haven’t seen many updates. If you are interested I could share my login for you to check it out.
