Page Ranking Triad That Google Doesn’t Know About

Posted on by in Search Engine Optimization

I’m a believer that Google isn’t quite the mystery we think it is. Sure, the word ‘Algorithm’ is a bit intimidating, but in the case of Google’s page ranking algorithm it’s not all that complicated. It’s not millions of ‘ultra-complex’ variables beyond our mortal minds that many of us think it is. :)

It all boils down to 3 core variables that you can control.

1- Content (keywords, domain name, tags, etc.)

2- Links (inbound, outbound, authority, etc.)

3- Activity (traffic, RSS subscriptions, comments, updates, etc.)

Some might think I’m not giving Google enough credit, but it’s really this simple.

Getting ranked is really only about doing three things:

#1- Getting quality, original content

#2- Generating a handful of quality links

#3- Generating some human activity so Google knows that what you’re doing is real and not just SPAM.

I’m sure all of you are doing at least one of these 3 things to help your site’s ranking, but the KEY is to be doing ALL 3 of them. Leave out one, and you’ll lose with Google.

Are you getting all 3 parts of Google’s Algorithm correct?  What part are you missing?  Comment Below!

I agree with what you are saying but not entirely. Based on the results udate Google Pagerank dated June 27, 2011 to prove my guess that the traffic is not a parameter that determines that a blog worthy of ranking from Google. The proof is a new blog that I made three months managed to get rank 2.

    Ryan,
I read your report and I’m wondering if the “spam” comments, that don’t look like spam but aren’t “great” comments still count as activity in Google’s eyes? Here’s an example: “Sorry, but I don’t agree with you here. I do not like that approach. But it’s a good start off. Perhaps with some increased information I could manage to understand it even more?”
It doesn’t really apply to the post it was on, so I’m just wondering if those count.

    Thanks!

I just heard the webinar held by Ryan and Eben Pagan. It’s outstanding. I’m a newbie and I´ve been doing PPC on Google AdWords for about a month or so. Before hearing your seminar I was feeling dissapointed and frustaded on having to pay more than 1 or 2 dollars just to get a click. I knew I had to something about it, but I didn’t know how. But, Thanks Ryan, I think I’am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s still pretty uphill but with training and dedication we can all reach the top. Thanks again!!

I’m definitely a newbie so I’m focusing on the first one right now, but I’ve already had a couple of comments trickle in, and been slowly connecting with others in the same realm who have blogs to start building relationships. My music blog has had better traffic than I would’ve expected at this point already, my business blog is where I’d expect it to be.

I know this sounds like a newbie comment, but my biggest issue is links. The other two require work, it’s true, but not like obtaining links. That’s my achilles heel.

@Carole Carlson, Building links is one of the most tedious parts of the puzzle, but there are some really great ways to speed up the process without being black hat or endangering your ranking.

The key here is to recognize that SEOing for Google is possible and pretty simple when you break it down.
