Naked SEO Reveals That #1 Ranking Is Closer Thank You Think
Posted on by Ryan Deiss in Search Engine Optimization
What stands between you and the top ranking position in Google?
Whom are you really competing against?
I think a lot of people automatically imagine that the sites that rank above them are some super SEOing geniuses that can’t be beat.
Disclaimer: There are some niches that are dominated by sites that have been around for a while and have a metric ton of inbound links ( i.e. the 800 lb. gorilla). But what about the niches that don’t have a competition killer?
The Naked SEO report by dotSEO revels that your competition may not be as stiff as you think it is.
Check this out, dotSEO surveyed 1000 small businesses and these are the answers they got.
Fact number 1: 60% of small business marketers surveyed do not currently invest in SEO
Fact number 2: Just 15% see SEO as an important or crucial part of their marketing strategy
Fact number 3: 23% are unsure what SEO is, or the benefits it can offer
Fact number 4: 30% have no plans for SEO in the next 12 months
Why am I telling you this?
If you’re of the 60% who don’t do SEO, or just someone who has done the bare minimum…Well, you’re could be moments away from taking a major leap away from that pack.
Think about it…somewhere around 60% of your competitors aren’t even using SEO. ONLY 15% see SEO as an important part of their marketing? And 23% are unsure what SEO even is!
If this is all true, how much would a solid SEO strategy help you get a top spot?
It’s all about being one step ahead of your competitors. In this case, it’s about being one ranking above the rest. And based on the results from said report, getting one step of head of someone who isn’t taking any steps isn’t that hard!
Question: Is there any shame in taking advantage of the many sites that are ignorant about SEO by simply implementing an SEO strategy of your own? Comment Below!

Hi Ryan, Did offline companies without a website participate in the survey? Or was it only companies that had a website? Or was it companies that had a website and were doing internet marketing? Great blog by the way /Johan

I am very surprised that 60% of business owners do not invest in SEO. It seems to me that more and more “laypeople” know about SEO everyday and I would expect that percentage to be lower.

Am I missing something? That report is talking about the UK. What about the USA? What are the stats for small to mid sized business here in America?

I don’t think that there’s any shame. However, SEO should not be our priority, because we should also build relationships, deliver values, etc.

Is their any shame?…lol. Of course not, and as long as it’s ethical without doing anything to compromise your integrity. It’s fair game, but it’s only a matter of time before competitors figure out what you’re doing, so staying a step ahead of them is pretty key. Nice read.
