The Legend of the “Million Dollar Napkin”

Posted on by in Marketing Tips

Back in 2006, a good friend bet me that I couldn’t write out my entire business model on a single napkin.

I took his bet, and right then and there – in the bar at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX – I grabbed a cocktail napkin and drew out my business model. What I wrote on that napkin has easily been worth many MILLIONS to me, which is why I now refer to it as my “Million Dollar Napkin”.

I’ve never shared the contents of this napkin with the public, but for a limited time you can see it with your own eyes in the video below:

    Ryan,
As a Realtor, your continuity concept is the key to building a truly referral based business which is key to longevity in this business. Thanks for clarifying the concept (and monitizing it to).

Great videos. I really love the continuity concept. It was not clear to me if this is a separate website. I would really like to know more on how to set that up.

Very well-done Ryan. I love the system and its simplicity. That’s the beauty of it for me.

Also a great example of being open minded (especially you older guys who think you know it all, I used to know it all once too:) to learning new things, even from younger business guys.

Ryan, I probably have at least 10 years on you (judging by your baby face), but you taught me some great stuff just in a 20 minute video.

For that, I say thank you & look forward to seeing what follows.

Very impressed with the content but will probably struggle a while to work out how to implement it to our own situation.

I am extremely impressed with your “Napkin” concept.
I want to find somebody who can take your concepts and apply them to my marketing.

Can you (or do you know someone who can) put together a system for selling information products online.

Specifically, I want to sell a mortgage reduction/acceleration product online and perhaps on ebay, Craigslist and other similar places.
Can you help me or refer me to someone who can?

Ahh, the secret that the gurus will not share. You hear everything about the “money is in the list.” However, they hold back on how to properly manage that list to make it profitable. Ryan, you offer the most outstanding source and insight to make internet marketing success available to anyone. I applaud you and respect your honesty!

hours i look another one video and for 45
minutes i look on this video only 3 websites
and listening smooth expalations for big money.
I think take some ideas from your model and

WOW that was some series content that you laid out there, I like the business modal and when you pin it down to only having to make 4 sales per day to make it big with this continuity process it is brilliant

Great video. I spoke at a recent event with Matt Bacak and he’s the one who turned me on to your videos. I’ve already sent them to many of my Internet marketing colleagues. I have a book coming out with John Wiley & Sons entitled eBoot Camp and in there I recommend many of my favorite Internet marketing blogs. I’m adding yours to the list.

    Ryan -

Interesting information. I think many people understand this process and just don’t realize how the pieces fit together. I’m just thinking out loud here – is it reasonable to think that you have to have the “Big Ticket” item developed completely and work backwards up the process to create a sustainable model?

    Ryan:

Do all the sales or elements on the left of the napkin also attempt to add customers to the continuity program? Or do you only allow continuity members to the increasingly larger sales?

Beautiful & Systematic way to plan and build your Business

I think the napkin idea provides a very good way to plan your business.
I can think immediately of two key benefits
    1) Allows you to see the key components of your business.
    2) Scalability

Two of the key things if done well can allow you to have freedom to run your business instead of having your business run your life. A Biggie, in your own words!
    Great concept

Hey Jonathan readers posters happy campers one n all … super doper videos strange Ive never seen any one outline a business model like this before what a great way to convey a “how to succeed online blueprint” it brought memories of my off line business a few years ago when I would burn the midnight oil trying to map out a business forecast for my accountant for the next day … so after seeing your video turned on the light bulb in my mind and I had a buzz of an idea to write down my own million dollar napkin business marketing funnel because seeing the 1st video made me realize I only was thinking two steps ahead so thanks for this information you are sharing I for one want to hang around with you from now on I’m sure your as genuine as you look and sound thanks for the insight to how to do an online business correctly

Great series of videos – you clearly conveyed your business model – adding in extremely helpful percentages that one can expect based on your experience. All together this makes your message very motivating – knowing both what to shoot for, and some very clear tactics on How-To Get There.
Frankly – I’ve listened to and read a lot of advice – but you come straight through with the kind of confidence that gets across sincerity, along with enthusiasm.
One other note – over the years I’ve actually studied some of the strategies you mention – and put some to good use – but your combining everything together, clearly and with dollar figure examples “rings the bell” – to Start Putting it All Together.
So – Thanks very much – and I’ll look forward to more.

    Hi Ryan,

Great stuff! I’ve seen similar sales funnels set up like this, but I don’t recall where. You obviously know what you’re talking about with all the success you had with Nicheology (you’re missed over there, by the way) and other memberships.

I’m curious, you showed that there would reach a point of equal new sign ups and attrition at around the 5th month, which makes sense. I was wondering if you’ve ever tested the membership as a “course” or “limited time” membership like 6 or 9 months? It might have an affect on sign ups, but most people would have a hard time dropping out if they already had money invested and were halfway through. Do you see what I mean? I don’t know the average numbers beyond that point, but it was just a thought.

Can’t wait for the next videos.
