Have You “Stumbl(ed)Upon” This Yet?

Posted on by in Search Engine Optimization

Here’s an interesting info-graphic worth taking a look at. Did you know StumbleUpon is #2 behind Facebook in Social Media traffic sources, globally speaking?

StumbleUpon places your content into a queue of recommendations for users, and will recommend random content to a user based on their interests. The user can rate your content, and the more ‘thumbs up’ you get, the more likely your content will get recommended again!

Adding your page or site to Stumble upon creates great potential for rapid exposure, increased & diverse traffic, & increased backlinks. It’s a unique way to get your content in front of users who might have not found you other wise!

I have actually had some random success with them, last month out the blue they sent me 1300 visitors and got me a lot of sales in the fat loss niche.

Wonder what they’ll do this month…

    Ryan,

    I agree with Ian.

My experience to has been that it’s great for viral stuff – videos, etc – like getting people to “discover” something, after which they might spread it around.

Not bad for just “branding”. But no good when it comes to monetizing that traffic in the short term. *Very* long term, maybe.

I’ve always found traffic from Stumbleupon to be particularly low value.

Because they’re coming via the random stumble button you can get hundreds of visitors in a very short space of time – but I always found that they hung around far, far less than visitors from other social media site (e.g. Twitter – or even Digg).

Wonder if anyone else has similar or different experiences? Is anyone getting stumblers to hang around?

@Ian Brodie, this has been my experience with traffic from StumbleUpon. Untargeted, high-bounce traffic

@barry seo, Great to point out Ian. I do wonder, if over time as your pages get more rankings, the traffic will be a bit more targeted since users can identify what they are interested in?

Maybe be worth looking out for, but for now, yeah, it’s pretty untargeted.
