My Blatant Email Marketing Screw-Up

You gotta love the irony of this…

I just sent an email out to my list promoting my latest course on email marketing (“13 Sneaky Email Marketing Tricks”) and the link in the promo went to the WRONG WEBSITE!

Seriously, this really did happen, but fortunately it wasn’t my fault (for once!) Check it out:

NOTE TO CYNICS AND SKEPTICS: I know that more than a few people will accuse me of staging this or even speculate that sending out an email with the wrong link …

I’m only gonna say this once: This email screw-up was not…I repeat NOT staged or planned in any way.

It also is NOT one of the 13 “sneaky email tricks” we discuss in “13 Sneaky Email Marketing Tricks”, so if you comment and say that on this or any other blog or forum all you’re really doing is proving that you 1) don’t (or can’t) read or 2) are so dang cynical you probably can’t be saved and should seriously consider a different business.

Here’s what this IS: It IS a good example of turning a lemon into lemonade.

Just remember that in all aspects of life, successful people see opportunities in everything…even their own personal screw-ups. :o)

    I am SO glad that you sent this e-mail!
    I got your messed up send and knew something
    was extremely wrong in that it was like NOT you.
    The site was not true to your style or
    character a.n.d. won’t even pass for a marketing
    tactic.

    Yea, I noticed…and scratched my head a bit….

    But–on another note, I got an email promoting the Get Money From Google site…and saw that your shopping cart didn’t follow the strategy you talk about in Sneaky Email Tricks…what was the thought behind that? What’s the thought process about doing it with 2 steps via the 1 step process on Perry’s site?

    Entered “email” over the “little” in the address bar and bingo there it is. 13 Sneaky Little Email Marketing Tricks. Perhaps 14 is a better number.

    That’s funny. How many times have we all done something like this and not caught it. Can’t tell you how many times through the years I’ve sent an email out that was supposed to have an attachment and forgot the attachment and a few times even had the wrong attachment. Regardless of how careful we are - mistakes will happen. I do love this though. BTW, I’d love to know what SFB is as well.

    Get Money From Google should be a 2-step process, so if you got a promo that was a 1-step process it might mean that someone is ripping us off. Would you mind forwarding that promo to support@drivingtraffic.com?

    Either way, it should be a 2-step order process.

    Ryan–I just went back to look…and it looks like it’s fixed now–I do believe the “guilty” party is a certain Mr. Belcher. I replied to that email address (which was the support email) and asked why the 1 step process…and shazam! Looks like it’s doing the 2-step now.

    For those of you reading this–I just finished going through the sneaky tricks. They’re super and well worth the price. So if you’re thinking about getting it, you’re wasting brain cells. As Nike says, Just Do It!

    In an email Perry explained how to send the same email to your subscribers that did not open the first one and double your profits. How, exactly, can you target those who did not open the initial email? Does Aweber or Getresponse allow you to keep track of this?

    So I suppose that’s a NO, you cannot do that “sneaky email” trick with get response then.

    We don’t use get response, so I’m not sure, you’re best bet would be to Google that topic. In the Sneaky Email Tricks report, we only show how to do it with Aweber.
