Are Display Ads Making A Run?

Posted on by in PPC Advertising

Based on a study done by the Rubicon Project, spending on targeted display ads has almost doubled thus far in 2010 (growth of 47%). As a result of this increased spending, web users are seeing 15% more targeted display ads than they were in 2009.

These numbers make it apparent that a trend is growing as more money is being spent, and studies estimate that $10.9 Billion will be spent on display ads next year. And it makes a lot sense seeing that online advertisers now have the opportunity to target their potential customers accurately across a vast network of web spaces.

It’s like getting permission to stalk your customers online and make a few suggestions now and then on some products they might like.

The truth is that this is ‘smarter’ advertising (still doesn’t change the fact that organic links are clicked more), and it’s really just scratching the surface of potential. At this point Google is exploring different ways to target customers with ads to increase the R.O.I for us all. As the web grows (mobile included), there will constantly be new avenues popping up to implement targeted display adds with different media combination and more intelligent algorithms.

The growth in the technology and intelligence plays a big role in the increased spending and is, therefore, something I’m going to continue keep an eye out for.

Have you had any success with targeted display ads yet? Is your spending going to increase as the potenital increase?
